Toolangi Adventure Sports Camp (TASC)

The Toolangi Adventure Sports Camps provide young people from Yarra’s public housing communities with a fully camp experience at a Toolangi campsite, approximately one hour from Fitzroy. These camps occur during the school holidays, alternating between camps for soccer and basketball as well as all-boys and all-girls camps.

Each camp brings together local teenagers and emerging young leaders aged 18–25 in a safe, structured and supportive environment. Soccer camps generally involve 20 participants divided into small teams, while basketball camps involve approximately 18 participants across three teams. Young Yarra leaders support supervision, mentoring, activities and group development throughout the camp.

While soccer and basketball remain central to the program, participants also take part in bushwalking, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, bike riding, hiking, yoga, cooking and baking.

TASC gives young people access to outdoor, sporting and developmental experiences that many would otherwise be unable to afford. Through shared challenges and time away from the city, participants build confidence, independence, resilience, teamwork, leadership skills and stronger relationships with peers and positive local role models.
